Babymoon in Mexico

Babymoon in Mexico

As I’m writing this the baby has just turned two months old, but I finally got around to putting together a quick recap of our trip! We snuck away for a babymoon un Cancun, Mexico this Spring and I was so happy we did. We really needed the R&R and time to reconnect before the second baby arrived. Plus, after the covid year we all had - it was truly a treat to get away for a few days. Oh, and we never made it on a babymoon with my first pregnancy, so this was special. Let’s get to it!

I’m sharing a quick packing list below for any pregnant mamas who want to reference it.

We flew into Cancun airport on Thursday morning and stayed until Sunday. My parents were watching our toddler so we left before he even woke up! We flew direct from Chicago and the flight felt short and sweet. It was our first trip to the east coast of Mexico so we were happy to spend less travel time.

We stayed at the Finest Resort in Playa Mujeres. We really wanted an all-inclusive resort, on the ocean, with a few good pools. This resort wasn’t anything fancy but it fit the bill and looked like a lot of fun! Looking back, we probably could’ve spent a bit more and stayed at the sister resort next door - the Excellence Playa Mujeres. The dining options and pools were a little nicer there. But we really enjoyed our resort and walked over for drinks at the Excellence since it was next door.

At check in we mentioned it was our babymoon - my bump also gave that away :) - and we got upgraded to a suite with our own rooftop plunge pool! The balconies on most of the rooms here were pretty great too (lounge couches, daybeds). Overall, loved the rooms and amenities.

Once we settled in, we had a great time lounging by the pools, eating poolside tacos, walking the beach every morning, and really just relaxing. I drank a few fun mocktails but always came back to a soda water with lime or a splash of pineapple juice. It was very refreshing! The poolside service was great. One of our couple friends met us in Cancun which made the pool days even more fun!

The resort had all sorts of activities each day (it was family friendly) like little pool parties, beach yoga, one day they had a bracelet station and I made an anklet! It was just a festive vibe and all the staff were really nice. I also finished one book while I lounged by the pool. Plus I got a prenatal massage so I was a happy girl.

The restaurants on site were good but nothing memorable. We truly enjoyed the poolside food the most! Chips & salsa, chicken tacos, margaritas for the hubby :) I also chose the hotel because of the lush landscaping and proximity to the beach - which was amazing. There were beach chairs and umbrellas set up all over. Plenty to go around.

Overall, it was as much needed getaway and I highly recommend going on a babymoon! You won’t regret it. Whether you’re pregnant for the first time or the fourth - it’s worth it to sneak away with your partner one last time before life gets even crazier.

A word on Covid travel:
Do what you’re comfortable with! The resort was very safe and had precautions in place. We were there as Covid was clearing up in early Spring and the resort was at a very low occupancy - we felt like we had the entire pool to ourselves sometimes! We had the option to wear masks if we wanted by the pool. In restaurants you wore them until you were seated. The Covid tests were available for free at the resort. It all worked pretty seamlessly and we were glad we went.
