Baby Toys: 6 - 12 Months

Baby Toys: 6 - 12 Months

Baby toys 6-12 months.jpg

With Remy’s 1st Birthday coming up (HOW?), I figured it was time for another post on age appropriate toys. If your baby is a bit younger, check out my 3-6 month toys post or my 0-3 month toys post.

Since the 6 month mark, he’s learned to crawl, pulls himself up on the coffee table or couch, and can almost stand! He is always on the move! All of this movement means the toys that interest him are a little bit different. He likes things that make cool sounds (think cups that tap or clicking a toy into place) and he likes things that move with him (a ball or a wooden car).

I will admit, we are still holding off on electronic toys - he is amused by a literal box, so we just don’t need that type of entertainment yet. I think once he is older, we will definitely resort to a few devices :)

Here is what Remy is playing with today. Happy shopping!

TOMY TOOMIES SQUEAKY EGGS

Starting with the best: Oh my gosh - get this for your baby! Remy LOVES this toy. It’s so simple, but a real crowd pleaser (thanks Aunt Amy!) He likes dumping the eggs out of the container. He likes the sound the eggs make when he clicks them back into the container. This toy definitely can entertain him for a good 15 minutes. It also can grow with him, since there are shape sorting and color matching elements, too. Great toy!

BELLA TUNNO TEETHER

Rremy has been teething on and off since about the 5 month mark. He has almost six teeth now! I love the Bella Tunno teethers because they have the rubber beading around the edge, which babies seem to like…Plus it is stylish!

INFANTINO SENSORY BALL SET

These sensory balls are really inexpensive and come in a set of six different shapes and colors. We usually throw one or two in the diaper bag to keep him entertained at a friend’s house.

NESTING CUPS

By far Remy’s most used and favorite toy is stacking cups. He got two sets for Christmas and literally never looked back. He is so happy to drag a cup around with him or bang two cups together. He will grow into them, too, learning to stack and knock them down. Nesting cups for the win!

WOODEN BLOCKS

Everything goes into the mouth and the blocks are no different. I do like the wooden blocks, as it gives a different texture (Try as I may, most of his toys are plastic). Remy usually chews on the blocks or bangs them together with the cups. He will grow into them and learn to stack them, as well. I think wooden blocks are such a timeless toy and a staple for future kiddos to come! His are from Crate and Barrel, but I love this option on Amazon for wayyy less and just as cute!

TOY KEYS

Another toy that is so simple, it works! Remy will gnaw on these keys for a good 10 minutes before looking at anything else. He really started liking these before 6 months, but they’ve been in heavy rotation for a while. So inexpensive, you could keep a set in the diaper bag and one at home.

PIZZA TEETHER

This thing is great! I got it for him on Halloween, since he couldn’t eat candy and it was a hit! It crinkles and the crust is rubber with some texture, which makes it great for teething. We take it with us on trips, since he likes it so much and it’s small.

SIMPLE WOODEN PUZZLE

Remy is just starting to get into the wooden puzzles. He practically dragged one out of the closet the other day when he saw it. He can’t quite grasp the shapes yet, but he likes taking the pieces out and banging them together. We have a few wooden puzzles that we are slowly pulling out for him. Anything really simple with big pieces works great for his age..

PERSONALIZED WOODEN PUZZLE

Possibly more for decoration, but I couldn’t resist. I got him a name puzzle for Christmas. He likes it the same as the other wooden puzzles so I think it is more for me :)

CRINKLE BOOK

Kid loves a good crinkle book. We have a few. Anything with tags is great and keeps him entertained. You can even look for smaller ones for the diaper bag.

BABY BONGOS

Ok, I have to admit. Our friend got us these baby bongos and I thought I would hate them. But they are adorably cute. Remy loves to bang on them. You can turn the sound off, which is a very nice feature. Definitely a fun toy for him when he is getting tired of his basics.

And that’s it! We have a few other toys laying around, but more of the same (lots and lots of balls!). We also have a lot of toys he just hasn’t grown into yet. It’s fun to start to pull things out as he gets older and more interested. I would say less is more with the kid toys. He is entertained by my bowls and pans just as much as his nice toys!
