First Birthday Party Ideas

Remy turns one in a few days! And while I can’t say we ever envisioned celebrating his birthday during a global pandemic, we are making the best of it and celebrating at home. I am making a confetti birthday cake and I think we will have a family Zoom call to sing happy birthday together (these are the times we are living in)! I am looking forward to an afternoon / evening focused on our little guy with no distractions!

Let’s just look at how teeny, tiny he was! Only a few days old here.

And this is him now…almost one year old! Time sure freaking flies!

Back to the party…Before COVID-19, I did have two (yes, two) birthday parties planned for Remy. One locally, for our friends in Chicago. And one back home in Ohio that our family could attend. And since I had already ordered the invitations, I figured I’d share what we planned to do!

MASTERS 1st BIRTHDAY PARTY

Remy’s birthday falls on Masters weekend this year. Last year, one of the first days we had him home was spent with my husband watching the Masters. See below:

So a natural birthday theme was the Masters! I found these super cute postcard invitations on Minted. Opting for the postcards saves a little on cost of invitations. They usually cost a bit more to have an envelope. We also always use the pre-printed address option - it makes things so easy and it’s free to add!

I was digging on Pinterest a little and decided it would be fun to do the food they serve at Augusta. We planned to serve:

Pimento cheese sandwiches

Ham and cheese melts

Blueberry muffins

Mixed fruit

Arnold Palmer (iced tea and lemonade)

Azalea cocktail

For dessert, we planned to have a birthday cake, but might’ve got creative with the greens theme!

The plan was to have the Masters on, maybe some music going. The party was around lunch time, but before afternoon nap time (strategically)! For kids activities, we planned to possibly do a mini-golf area. And for adults, I might’ve had a bit of fun betting on the tournament. Overall, we were really looking forward to this theme! There’s always next year…

1st BIRTHDAY BRUNCH

Back home in Chicago, we planned to get our friends together for a casual celebration for Remy. But also to celebrate the fact that we made it one year successfully parenting! And our friends helped us along the way :) We figured a brunch felt really casual and who doesn’t love mimosas? We were going to host it in our home and invited about 20 people (some with and some without kiddos).

I was going to do a bit of a french bakery theme for the menu:

Ham and cheese croissants

Mini vegetable quiches

Cheese, meat, and baguette tray

Mixed fruit

Macarons

Juice + champagne

Since this was just brunch, I hadn’t planned on any activities aside from singing happy birthday. I was going to play one of my favorite Spotify stations, French Cafe music. And overall just enjoy good food and good company!

Even though neither of these parties are happening this year, Remy will have no clue! And we can always celebrate with our friends and family after all of this is over. Until then, we are making the most of our quality time together.

In case you need some more ideas, here is my running list of kids birthday theme ideas. Happy planning!

FIRST BIRTHDAY THEME IDEAS

Bee theme - honeycomb, black and white

Llama Llama Red Pajama - Remy’s favorite book. I liked this twist on the typical llama theme that is popular right now, have your little dress up in all red pajamas!

Musical instrument theme - I think we will still do this one, maybe for his 2nd birthday

Mexican theme - someone’s turning uno!

Sloth theme - invitations say “Let’s Hang”

Camp theme - think s’mores, bandanas, scavenger hunts

Wild One - animal / zoo theme

National Parks theme - one of my faves, still on my list for future

Spaghetti & Meatballs theme - I just love this for a one year old, have a build your own pasta bar, white and red checkered table cloths, let the kiddo get messy in a white onesie, would make great pictures!
